Malware Scams

What are Malware Scams?

Malware scams involve fraudsters tricking victims into downloading malicious software, which can steal personal data, passwords, or financial information.

Common Signs of Malware Scams:

Fake Software Updates: Pop-ups urging you to download updates for software you don’t recognize.

Phishing Emails with Attachments: Fraudulent emails containing malicious attachments disguised as legitimate files.

Unexpected Downloads: Automatic downloads when visiting certain websites.

Fake Antivirus Alerts: Warnings claiming your device is infected and offering a ""solution.“

Untrusted Applications : Request to download untrusted application (APK) not from reliable app stores to your device

What You Should Do:

1. Only install software from trusted app stores. Download apps exclusively from official sources (e.g. Google Play) and check user ratings.

2. Be wary of pop-ups. Never click suspicious pop-ups or banners that prompt downloads even on sites you think are safe.

3. Do not open strange attachments. Avoid downloading or opening attachments from unfamiliar or unexpected emails.

4. Keep your device updated. Enable automatic updates for your OS and apps, these offten patch cybersecurity vulnerabilities.

5. Use antivirus protection. Install reputable antivirus software and configure regular scans.
