Business Banking


Abu Bakar Buyong is an Executive Vice President of BCB. He heads the Business Banking Division of the Group’s consumer banking operations.


His banking career started at the former Bank Bumiputra Malaysia Berhad (BBMB) in 1974 when he joined as an Executive Trainee. Since then he has served the organisation for over 31 years, in wide ranging banking tasks that include key head office senior positions and senior positions in subsidiaries that included merchant banking, securities broking, leasing and factoring. He had been Chief Executive Officer at BBMB Factoring. Prior to the merger of BBMB with BOC to form BCB in 1999, he was Senior General Manager of BBMB Securities Sdn Bhd. He joined the merged bank upon the merger and rose in the Business Banking Division to the position of Executive Vice President.


Currently he is a member in the bank’s following committees:

• Group Management Committee

• Consumer Banking Committee

• Balance Sheet Management Committee

• Group IT Strategy Committee


Abu Bakar Buyong graduated from University Malaya in 1974 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics (Applied) and also obtained a Certificate in Education from the Teacher’s Training College.
